TSO Armor & Training to offer USCG approved Master of Vessels of not more than 100 gross registered tons for vessels operating upon coastal and near coastal waters license classes
Chesapeake Va, 9 Jan. 2012
The 100 Ton Master or Mate course is usually the first deck officers’ license that a mariner will receive. The course while challenging, is taught by industry professionals who are experienced captains by virtue of both US Coast Guard qualifications and having “been there done that” operating on the waters as a Sea Captain. Classes are divided into two sections, first is Operator Uninspected Passenger Vessel, commonly referred to as an “OUPV or Six Pack” license, followed by the upgrade to the Masters of 100GT vessels instruction. This is a very comprehensive course and is the foundation for all upper level deck officer licenses. Highlights from this course include topics such as navigation, deck seamanship, and emergency procedures.
“Our licensing program enables both active duty sailors and coast gaurdsmen, and professionals working around the Maritime industry to train to meet internationally recognized standards. Through this training, each mariner assures their ability to conduct the business of their craft on our nation’s waterways safely and effectively while operating seamlessly with their federal, state and local partners on the water,” said Bryan Main, TSO’s Program Manager, a veteran of the US Navy, serving 18 of those years in Naval Special Warfare as a Special Warfare Boat Operator.
At TSO we are committed to working closely with the National Maritime Center and the Maritime Education Standards Council to ensure all curriculum is continually updated, providing only the most relevant and up-to-date training available. Consequently, in November, TSO Armor & Training Inc. became a member of the Maritime Education Standards Council (MESC) and participated in the meeting held at the USCG National Maritime Center (NMC) in Martinsville, West VA. The MESC is comprised of twenty-nine member schools and companies dedicated to providing the highest quality maritime education to recreational and professional mariners.
